Mount Toubkal 2027 — A Better Way to Climb
A structured High Atlas expedition designed to give you the best chance of summiting North Africa’s highest peak, while turning the journey into a full mountain experience rather than just a summit attempt.
Arrival & Acclimatisation
We arrive in Marrakech around 19:15 and transfer straight to the mountain village of Imlil, where dinner awaits at our traditional riad.
The first evening is intentionally relaxed to allow recovery from travel, a good meal, and a proper night’s sleep before heading higher into the mountains. At just under 2,000m, Imlil also supports early acclimatisation ahead of the summit push.
Trek to Base Camp
The next morning we begin trekking through the High Atlas, passing waterfalls, Berber villages, and mountain trails as we climb steadily towards base camp at just over 3,100m.
Instead of staying in the busy refuge, we use expedition-style tents near base camp for a quieter, more authentic mountain experience.
After an early dinner, we rest and prepare for summit day.
Summit Day
A serious high-altitude mountain day.
We cover around 18km with 1,100m ascent to 4,167m. Our North Face approach adds roughly 200m of extra ascent compared to the standard route, but avoids the main crowds and offers a more remote line on the mountain.
Toubkal is often called one of the easiest 4,000m peaks, but it is still a long, demanding day requiring fitness, steady pacing, and mental resilience.
In May, snow near the summit is very likely. Crampons and ice axes are included in the trip and required for summit day. No experience is needed — full instruction will be given the evening before by local mountain guides.
We start early, climbing steadily towards the summit ridge via the North Face before reaching the top of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), with wide views across the Atlas Mountains.
The descent back to Imlil is long and physical — where preparation really pays off.
Return & Marrakech Add-On
We stay one final night in Imlil after the summit to rest, recover, and properly take in the achievement.
After returning to Marrakech, there is an optional add-on to extend the experience with a guided city walk and evening street food / market tour in the medina — a completely different side of Morocco and a great way to finish the trip.
The following morning we transfer to Marrakech Airport for the return flight. ✈️
Fitness Requirements
This is a non-technical 4,000m summit, but still a big mountain day at altitude with snow travel and a full descent. A good intermediate fitness level is required.
We’ll run pre-trip training hikes to prepare for the elevation, distance, and pacing needed for summit day.

Proper footwear and warm layers are the difference between a tough day and an enjoyable one.
